Additional information for people attending activities and courses in the swimming pool

Applicants and those accompanying the applicant will abide by the Normal Operating Procedures (NOP) issued by Mitie Facilities Management.  A summary is shown below and a full copy is available on request.

Safety

  • Do not leave children unattended.  Please be aware that our staff are not responsible for the children while they are in the changing rooms, school corridors or anywhere on the school site other than the pool.
  • Do not enter the poolside if there is no lifeguard or swimming teacher present.
  • Please ensure that any children who are not swimming stay on the bench and do not wander around the poolside.
  • Spectators must either sit on the bench or remain in the changing area whilst the lessons are taking place.

Phones and mobile devices

  • Due to child protection issues no phones, mobile devices, cameras or video equipment are permitted on the poolside nor should they be used in the changing rooms.

Changing rooms

  • Children 8 years and over must use the correct changing room for their gender.
  • Parents bringing children under 8 years should use the correct changing room appropriate to the parent.
  • We strongly recommend that you use the lockers that are located in both the male and female changing rooms.  They take a £1 coin that is returned when the locker is re-opened.
  • Property that is left in the changing rooms and not locked in a locker is there at the owners risk.

Entering the poolside

  • Men and boys 8 years and over must enter the poolside via the male changing rooms.
  • Women and girls 8 years and over must enter the poolside via the female changing rooms.
  • Please remove outdoor footwear before entering the poolside to prevent outdoor contamination on the poolside.
  • No prams or buggies are allowed onto the poolside.
  • Wheelchair users and other less able spectators should remain within the designated area, by the medical room at the shallow end of the pool.

Swimwear

  • Boys - loose fitting, surfer type, shorts and wetsuits are not appropriate for swimming lessons as they can inhibit some of the swimming activities.
  • Girls - Girls need to wear a swimming costume not a bikini.

Eating before swimming

  • After eating, please allow 1 to 2 hours before entering the water.  This is to try to prevent swimmers being sick in the water which causes the cancellation of lessons.

Before going into the pool

  • Please ensure that long hair is tied back using a band or bobble.  Please do not use sharp clips or slides.
  • Plasters should be removed
  • No jewellery is permitted in the pool.  This includes earrings and piercings etc.  If earrings cannot be taken out then a swimming cap that fully covers the ears and earrings must be worn.  If piercings cannot be removed then the applicant will need to refrain from swimming until such time as they can be removed.

Goggles

  • Swimmers wear goggles at their own risk.
  • Parents must be responsible for adjusting and ensuring that the goggles fit correctly so that they do not move around and damage the eye.
  • Swimmers will be asked to remove their goggles for jumping in and diving activities.

Food and drink

  • No food or drink should be taken on to the poolside and this includes snacks, sweets and drinks for spectators.
  • Swimmers in the higher stages who are swimming for over 30 minutes can bring water in a plastic container if required.

Fire evacuation

  • Please do not block fire exits.
  • In the event of the fire alarm sounding please make your way out of the pool using the nearest exit and wait on the hard standing area by the MUGA pitch.  Staff will bring the swimmers out.
